When deciding what area to work on next in a painting, I sometimes look at it through a black and white filter to compare the tonal variations, turn it upside down, look at it in a mirror, or leave it sitting on the table indefinitely.. 🔍

When deciding what area to work on next in a painting, I sometimes look at it through a black and white filter to compare the tonal variations, turn it upside down, look at it in a mirror, or leave it sitting on the table indefinitely.. 🔍

I had a wonderful time attending the Articulation Prize competition’s North East final at the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle. It was a pleasure coordinating this inspiring project for Ampleforth College, where A-level Fine Art students had the chance to share their passion for art through developing their research, writing, and oral presentation skills.

A special congratulations to Hannah (Y12), who represented Ampleforth as our finalist. She delivered a thoughtful and insightful presentation on Yves Klein’s International Klein Blue 79, questioning the concepts and the value of modern art. Although she narrowly missed out on a place in the Grand Final, we’re proud to see her join the National Gallery’s Articulation Alumni Network, opening doors to a wealth of exciting opportunities.

Our KS3 Art scholars were also invited to join the trip, and treated to a private tour of the gallery. Looking forward to seeing more of our students continue to develop their talents and passion for the arts.

2. Tree outside the Music department window during Golden hour. KLIMT.
3. View from Pickering Castle ruins ~ Romanticists.
4. Helmsley Castle ruins ~ Caspar David Friedrich, especially his Abbey in the Oakwood.
